Catherine Ford, born in Bloomsbury (London) in London, was raised by her mother, grandmother, as well as her godparents. Her father abandoned her family. She suffered from an anxiety disorder that was rooted in the word association when she was a child. Ford's passion for acting started as a child. Ford joined in the National Youth Theatre. She was accepted into Sylvia Young Theatre School but after a week, she decided that she was not a fit. Ford rather applied to the Central School of Speech and Drama, finally winning the position on her 4th application. Her classmate were Shaun Dingwall, who would be later reprise her role as Pete Tyler in Doctor Who. Ford was graduated in 1993, but, by that time, she had already made her TV debut on a 1991 episode in the show Surgical Spirit; she adopted her professional title "Catherine Tate". Tate was a part of such TV shows such including The Bill, Men Behaving Badly, and London Burning. Tate was a regular performer on stage and was a member of the company's 2000-2001 season. Tate was first noticed for her stand up comedy in 1996.
